What's Your Favorite Hymn?

Respond in the comments section. If you want, you can visit cyberhymnal, find your favorite hymn(s), and paste your favorite verse into your comment.

Also, read Gretchen's post about the great concert at our church last night featuring old hymns set to new tunes.

My favorite(s):

"Be Thou My Vision"

"Here Is Love"

My favorite single verse is from a different hymn, "It Is Well with My Soul":

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

This is tough! Can we have a top five?

Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
And Can It Be
O Sacred Head, Now Wounded
Hallelujah, What a Savior!

Count me in for "It Is Well." The combination of the tune and the words is powerful.

Hard for me as well, but I would have to say:

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
How Great Thou Art
Beautiful Savior (Fairest Lord Jesus)

There MANY other favorites depending on what season of life I am in :)

This hymn has always been my favorite even when I was a stuanch armenian.
Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

1. Come Thou Fount (also well sung at Vermilion Manor and doesn't have tons of sharps. . . .No...really I love it
2. Because He Lives

Two great songs! :)

O The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus - though Jerusalem My Happy Home is fast gaining ground. There can be no better way to end a Sunday evening service than to look forward together to that place "where congregations ne'er break up and sabbaths have no end."

First song to come to mind...
-Rock of Ages - I especially enjoy the "Upward the Bob Kauflin Hymns Project" version because it has more verses than is normally found in the hymn book.

How Great Thou Art. I love the last two verses best. So powerful!!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
